Magic Berry Juice Memoirs … does this stuff really work?
I’m admittedly one of the biggest skeptics you’ll probably ever meet. Infomercials make me cringe, I am wary of any and all salespeople, and I rarely purchase products that make outrageous claims. So, a year ago when my friend Laura asked me to try Monavie, a juice supplement proclaiming to provide powerful antioxidants and nutrients for better health, I had a less than enthusiastic response. Actually, I pretty much ignored her for about a year… and then I proceeded to mock anyone who bought into the idea that a juice was actually going to make them feel better. (Also, I may be slightly responsible for coining the term: “the magic berry juice cult”… ahem…)
So, fast forward a year later to now: The Monavie juice trend has definitely caught on. Nearly all of my friends and even family members are now addicted to this product. Normally, I would hold fast to my cynical disbelief, but I can’t ignore the fact that reasonable, intelligent, logical people who I’ve known and trusted for years are drinking this juice regularly and claiming they feel better because of it. My cycling partners say they don’t feel sore after a long ride, my roommate claims his joints don’t ache like they used to after a heavy workout, my sister-in-law says her migraines have subsided, my mother-in-law says she sleeps better, and most claim Monavie has helped them achieve better overall health. Their personal testimonies and the general positive buzz around Monavie juice causes me to wonder: is it all in their head, or does this stuff really work?
Personally, I have reason to try any product that might actually help some of my nagging injuries and consistent lack of energy. Years of athletic pursuits like basketball, marathon and triathlon racing, kickboxing, mountain climbing have kept me fit, but have reaped havoc on my joints. I’ve been plagued with plantar fasciitis in my right foot for the last 2 years, preventing me from running for more than 20 minutes without excruciating pain. Most recently, my right knee has been popping and I wake with this dull ache in my back. Additionally, I have a real hard time falling asleep and consequently, an even harder time waking up. The fog of morning exhaustion doesn’t diminish until I have my large coffee- an addiction I’m sure will be really hard to break.
Clearly, I have issues. So, when people I know and trust say this stuff could potentially help me- I guess I should try it. I’m not expecting miracles, nor am I anticipating overnight results. In fact, the Monavie creators openly admit their product is not a “cure-all”--- it’s simply a supplement, a juice comprised of açai berries and other nutrient-dense fruits designed specifically to naturally aid the human body. (Actually, the whole list of ingredients, product overviews and frequently asked questions can be found on their website: http://www.monavie.com). I’m just curious to see what effects, if any, this product will have on me and whether or not I should consider Monavie a worthwhile investment.
So, thanks to my ever persistent friend Laura, I’ll be drinking 2 full ounces of this juice- every morning and night for the next 90 days and blogging weekly about my experience. Oh, I bet you are teeming with excitement, aren’t you? Critics and doubters: feel free to consider me your “Monavie guinea pig”… subscribe, read, enjoy, comment, pass on, etc:

Local peeps, want to join me in this juice journey? There’s a tasting party hosted by my friend Laura- this Thursday night in Gilbert. Let me know if you’d like to go with me and get some *free* samples. I think they have tasting parties often, so if you can’t make it but want to go in the future- let me know.
